Is it sin for woman to wear trousers, weave and make up?

The question of whether wearing a trouser, a weave or make up is sin before God is really a serious one. There have been discussions and debates from all corners of the world. Some have declared that they have been advised by God, mostly through revelations, on the answer to the question. Some that have had divine revelations on other issues present themselves in the same outfit. For example, Bill Weise’s wife shows up on stage in Johannesburg South Africa on pants. Sarah Binayamo Boyanga, Marry K. Baxter and a number of others that claim to have seen the afterlife, especially heaven and hell, appear on screen wearing a weave. The person that want the truth then ends up confused as to why the revelation would omit the truth on these important questions that have brought a lot of confusion in the church today.

Defining what sin is might help as I try to answer this question.

What is sin?

You could say it is missing the mark, like the Greek say. Which mark? The teachings of Moses, Jesus and the Apostles constitute lessons on what sin is, which in this case we can say it defines the mark. This could be due to environmental conditions yet it still is missing the mark. Sin is not necessarily making a mistake because a mistake is not to be committed again but sin is always a temptation.

1 John 5:17, ‘all unrighteousness is sin’. Un-rightness with fellow man, self and God is sin. This means that sin has got to do with relationships. By nature, man has a relationship to maintain with God, man and self. Knowing to do good but not doing it is sin (James 4:17). This means that sin is also an attitude to the three; God, fellow man and self. For example, if you continue to have an attitude of rebellion to God, to you it is counted as sin. For one to have a clear line of communication with God, sin should not be in the matrix. Sin is standard across nations and ethnic groups.

The answer

I’m not the best person to tell whether it is sin or not but I recommend that a person that want to know the truth consider the following:

1. Are you willing to do what is right once you know God’s position on the matter? If for example it were to be revealed to you that wearing your trousers, weave and your make up is sin, would you voluntarily stop doing it? Would you spread the word about your convictions because you are expected to be your brother’s keeper as well? You cannot approach God with an attitude. This calls for personal honesty. If you would not accept letting go, then you are not ready to get an answer to the question.
2. Does the Bible say anything about it? The Bible was written for all time generations and therefore could be a bit general. For example, there is no verse that talks about watching horror movies because some generations would not relate. If at all the Bible tackles the subject head on, like adultery and lies, then you must be willing to abide. We all know that the Bible does talk about woman wearing man’s clothes and vise versa in the book of Deuteronomy 22:5, but we need to be careful if we have not further analysed this portion to suite our conditions today.
3. What is your honest answer conviction when you pray about it? Dr. A. J. Gordon once said, “There is more you can do after you pray, but there is nothing more you can do until you pray.” There used to be a song that says, ‘Why worry if you can pray’. To me this means that for every problem or questions, prayer is the solution. God does not restrict us on what to pray for and what not to. It might take a bit more dedication and concentration, sometimes requiring fasting, on your part to get an answer on something that is not clearly written in the Bible. The Holy Spirit should lead you to the truth after you have prayed about this.
4. Does it please God? Remember the ‘thou shall nots’ of the Bible and know what God wants from us. I can’t help but mention that the book of Deuteronomy gives a lot on things that God likes and dislikes. You will know that God in the past is God today and the same in the future (Hebrews 13:8). He never changes. What was an abomination to Him remains so for eternity.
5. Does it not offend other Christians? I could have mentioned this point and concluded this post and it would have been enough. In this point I could add short skirts, breast cleavage revealing clothes, etc. I Corinthians 8:13, “Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend”. The Bible acknowledges that there are some weak Christians that you should care about. Your religious liberty should not lead someone else to stumble. As children of God, we have a responsibility to every other born-again believer. We must do everything possible to help him on in his Christian life and be careful never to do anything that offends him. If the thing in question offends other Christians, then it is wrong.

Romans 14:13-23 is clear and straight to the point. “13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. 20 Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for anyone to make another stumble by what he eats. 21 It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.[a] 22 The faith that you have, keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who has no reason to pass judgment on himself for what he approves. 23 But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin”.

I pray that God gives you the answers to all your questions regarding this subject. I know you would have reasons to choose whatever is pleasing to you and a majority, but take time to get the answers from God and let your personal conviction lead you.
