The standing selfless love of Jesus for all

god?Selfless according to Google default search results means being concerned with the needs of others than with one’s own; unselfish. This is what Jesus is for man living in this world today. Many times Christians deceive themselves to believe that they are highly favored than none Christians when it comes to Jesus’ love.

The first thing that everybody, including Christians, should know is that Jesus does not like it when we compare ourselves with respect to doing good before Him. His parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector in Luke 18:8 give a clear position on people that trust themselves to be righteous. The moment you start to compare yourself with others and put the Bible as your yardstick, you are exactly like the Pharisee in this parable who Jesus disqualified.

I can assure you that even at the point of death, there are those that find themselves trapped in believing that they will enter Heaven because they are comparatively better in doing good than others. Sadly, such people may be shocked to find themselves going to hell as opposed to Heaven.

No human effort made by anyone can impress Jesus but only a heart that is willing to obey what He says. In God’s sight we are the same. God shows no favour to anyone (Romans 2:11). No bishop or prophet is better in any way before God. The only thing that counts is doing the will of God. When you read Matthew 7:24, Jesus says that whoever hears His sayings and does or practice them, that person is like a man who builds his house on a rock such that it stood the forces of the wind and the floods. However, even if you read, understand and do the words of Jesus, you have no grounds to assume or even claim the benefits as per your discretion.

Practical application

Unless to take things as practical as they are, you may soon be confused and think that Christianity is made up yet it is a reality that shall shock many that deny it when they die.

I thought of a case where a Christian works with none-believers when there is a vacant higher position. The believer has no grounds believing that because he or she is a Christian then the position should be given to him or her. It is always a temptation for Christians to think that all the good should be theirs because God of the universe is on their side. Little do such Christians know that Jesus loves the sinner as much as He loves him or her. My belief is that Christians too are sinners; it is just that when they become conscious of their position in sin, they deal with it immediately.

Another example is that of an accident where Christians and non-Christians are involved. Would a Christian say that because they are friends to God through Jesus, then they should not be injured or some of them even die? Sadly, God loves all people alike.

I have heard of some Christians say that they do not take insurance of their assets and possessions because they are covered by God. This is not to say that God does not protect Christians but the point is that such a Christian should understand and be ready that the grace of God will take him or her through the pain of the loss or damage of an uninsured item.

Failing to understand this will result in a Christian that is jealous, angry and judgmental. No humans should dictate terms to God or hold Him at ransom for promises He has made. This is one strong reason many Christians have backslidden when what they claim in prayer does not manifest in the physical.

What a Christian should do

  1. Pray to God with a sincere heart – According to Philippians 4:6, Christians should not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present their requests to God. Doing this is not easy for a Christian when the ungodly take the senior positions even when they do not pay tithes. I once shared with a friend on why it is possible for someone who is not a Christian to make more progress in life than a believer. Simple, the non-believer does not pay tithes and therefore if the tenth of your salary makes up for a bond or a car instalment, the believer will not have that car or that property because his goes to God.

If you want the advertise position, yours as a Christian is to pray or even fast for God’s help to be considered for the job. If you do get a chance to attend an interview, prepare yourself and pray to God for it. If you lose it, the next point should apply.

  1. Learn to be content with what you have – the Bible says that Christians should keep their lives free from the love of money and be content with what they have because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” Hebrews 13:5. As a matter of fact, you may not know what the person has done to get that job, tender or favor. They could have bribed the authorities, which it also against God’s will.
  2. Delight in the Lord – This point can work as the first thing to do when the temptation to blame God or claim on His promises comes. Your joy should be in the sweet fellowship with God. Psalm 37:4 points to this as the first and foremost requirement for getting God’s favor to cover your desires. This is not about comparing yourself with others but you enjoying your relationship with God. This world is good at comparing people and we should not be counted with those.

I believe I have fairly represented the unfailing love of Jesus for everyone. The critical thing therefore is for every living person to return the favor of His love by loving Him back. Loving the Lord Jesus Christ is defined in His terms as doing His will. John 14:15 and John 15:14 says the same thing about returning the love of Jesus, ‘If you love me, keep my commandments’, ‘You are my friends if you do whatever I command you’.

I encourage you to pray for yourself to keep such scriptures in your mind so that when times of your test come, you pass it. There is no other way but to trust God for everything that He has in plan for you.

Be blessed.
