Does God allow for accidents to happen?

metro accidentEver since the world was, accidents have been. Does it mean God does not care when accidents happen? Why would a loving God allow for people to die a painful death in accidents? These are questions that the world could be asking these days after the loss of 162 lives in the AirAsia plane, Flight QZ8501, an Airbus A320-200 that lost contact with air traffic control early on Sunday 28th December 2014, during bad weather on a flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore. There are many other accidents within different circles around the world.

May we be reminded that God has three indisputable qualities that makes me believe that nothing goes behind His back at any time. God is;

1. Omniscient, meaning that God knows everything (2 Timothy 3:16, Psalms 147:5). He knows the future before it unveils. That is why when Jesus was born, an Angel gave instruction to the wise man not to use the same route when they go back (Matthew 2:12). He guides the steps of the righteous.
2. Omnipotent, meaning that God has unlimited power and He is able to do anything (Matthew 19:26, Luke 1:37). God could say anything to stop accidents and it would happen but He has let man to control what happens in the world and would not go against our personal will.
3. Omnipresent, meaning that God is present everywhere at the same time (Proverbs 15:3). This one scares me because God is always watching when you commit sin and feels the pain you inflict as you do it. In fact, if we could comprehend how God feels when we fall into sin, we wouldn’t do it.

God protects everyone from any danger, it is just that sometimes man stray from His protection by their doing. If for example, a person gets drunk from taking alcohol and then decides to drive and cause a fatal accident, I am sure you agree that it would be insane to blame God for the accident. I don’t think it would be fair to blame God because God forbids getting drunk but wouldn’t force anyone to stop doing it. However, this is not to say that God cannot protect you even if its your doing that resulted in having an accident.

It is unfortunate that man is prone to making mistakes and I believe that most of the time, accidents are caused by such mistakes. Testimonies have been shared where people had warning signs before an accident happened and they did not realize that it was God warning them. God would sometimes send people to warn you in form of advice but often we do not realize it.

The world should also know that the devil is in operation. The devil’s aim is to kill and destroy and therefore would take make good use of every opportunity he gets from human ignorance of unknowingly giving his those chances. His aim is to lead people astray from the will of God and eventually lead them to eternal death in hell. Not only does the devil work through invisible demons, but there are also some people that operate under the influence of devils to cause accidents.

It is true that we all live to die one day but our death should not be influenced by the devil’s efforts. Safety is in acknowledging God in all our actions, including movements of any kind. More to that is knowing the voice of God. When He speaks, we should obey. When He says don’t go, we shouldn’t. If we have to, we have to pray for His grace.

In conclusion, God is all powerful but the devil can gain access to people’s lives through their negligence and disobedience to God. It comes down to one thing ‘OBEY THE LORD and you will be IN HIS WILL’.

May I refer you to some articles I already have written on God’s protection:

  1. Peter says:

    If god is omniscient then he knows accidents will happen.
    if he is omnipotent he knows he can prevent it.
    yet he doesn’t prevent it. your example of the drunk person is very poor.

    what if a kid touches a live wire by accident? for no fault of his own he is dead or horribly maimed. there is no god.
