Top sinful traps for mankind are the three; sexual immorality, the love for money and taking alcoholic drinks. This is not to say that other sinful practices are less of an abomination or do not matter to God but I assume that these three are common with many people.
In the book of Romans 7:15 – 25 the Bible confirms that often people that are trapped in sin do not like what they do yet they find themselves falling into the same sins. This reveals to us and confirms that we know when we are about to, have crossed and are over the line. To many, the outcome is regret and that is how is should be.
It is normal for a healthy person to feel sexual pressure and desire to fulfil that need. This is true for both males and females, married and not married, all races and ethnic groups. People are wired the same when it comes to sexuality. This makes sexuality a God given gift that comes naturally, which God expects all of us to handle with caution as we shall individually give an account about how we controlled it while in the earthly body.
Righteousness is closely related to holiness yet both are equally important for perfecting the believer for Heaven. Before I go to the definition of righteousness, I want to justify my reasons for choosing pornography as a sin that takes away righteousness. This is not to say that it is the only sin neither to say it is the worst of all sins. You may substitute the word pornography for any other sin you think of.
Firstly, pornography is tricky such that some people participate in it without knowing it. I wrote an article on my view on this subject in the post ‘be careful of disguised adult content or pornography’. This is true when you study the definition of the word. Photos, videos, artwork, audio, television programmes, can be instruments for pornography. I am a witness to the fact that more than 90 percent of movies played on television has at least one sexual sin.
Humans are sexual beings by nature and this fact should not be taken for granted. A man is wired differently from a woman. Generally, as a person grows up, his or her sexual appetite also grows. The indicators are the obvious signs of puberty for both males and females. This therefore makes sexuality part of our lives and therefore requires special attention.
God has said a lot about sexuality in the Bible to guide mankind through the lifetime journey as sexual beings. 1 Corinthians 7 Verse 9 says, ‘But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. Self-control is the keyword here yet there is no measure for it to help the next person realise how exposed he or she is to harassment. This therefore leads me to conclude that the best thing is to trust no one but guard yourself not to be a victim of someone that has poor self-control. Furthermore, guard yourself not to be a sexual offender to others.
