What Holiness is and what it is not – Ephesians 5:1 – 2
Holiness is not being perfect but it has a lot to do with the attitude towards sin. I believe that it is a Christian’s privilege to attain a state in which he or she is entirely free from sin, both inward and outward. This is not to say that evil and vicious suggestions from the mind and others will not be made to the holiness pursuer but that he or she will not comply nor be sympathetic to the suggestions both outwardly and inwardly.
Living a Holy Life does not mean living Outside the World
All people are called by God to live a holy life but it does not mean that they must exit the world to live in some space of their own. For that reason, you will notice that the holy Christians also identify with the following life reality issues:
Earthly Rewards for fearing God
No single effort into fearing God goes unnoticed by Him, the Almighty. God rewards those that fear Him in various ways. It must be noticed that the rewards are realised while we live in this world and the ultimate reward is inheriting the kingdom of God.
Jesus and the Storms of life – Luke 8: 22 – 24
The storms of life hit everyone and it is good news that three Holy Bible authors address this issue. Mathew (Mat. 8:23 -27), Mark (Mark. 4:35 -41) and Luke (Luke 8:22 – 24). Thus the issue on storms of life cannot be ignored in real life situations.
Help Yourself into Spiritual Growth – 2 Peter 3:18
Spiritual growth is applicable to believers. Growth entails knowing the Lord Jesus Christ progressively better. This process starts after accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your saviour. Growth is a characteristic of life; all living things grow.
Qualities for Imitating God
Imitating God is likened to children that wish to be like their parents. Likewise, Christians should have the same mind-set of God. All that have accepted Jesus Christ are now children of God, and therefore must imitate Him. If we assume the childhood relationship with God, we therefore must aim at pleasing God in everything we do.
Do Not Do it at Work Please
So many things can be done at work yet not permissible. If you intend keeping yourself pure as defined by God’s standards, you must guard yourself not to be counted amongst those that do the unlawful.
Charity Organizations Owe Giving an Account to God
Charity is a good thing and giving to charity organizations is good. However, leaders and owners of such organizations are answerable to the public, donators as well as God Himself. The leaders / owners may go away with abusing the funds with people but not with God.
An example would get my point through. In Swaziland, there is a popular charity programme known as ‘Makhelwane Simbona Ngetento’. This programme is run by a local Gospel musician known as ‘Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu’ on the local television channel ‘Swazi TV’. I pick this programme because I know the host has testified to be a Christian and this blog is Christian based and therefore no conflict of interest is anticipated.
While you wait for the convenient Time to Start Evangelising
While we wait for the time to start doing the things God has called us to do in the world, so much damage goes on to mankind. God has called each and every one of us, particularly those that have seen the light of Christ, to several assignments. A few of these are witnessing about the power of God manifested in Jesus Christ, calling people to salvation through Jesus Christ, offering and works of charity, preaching, etc. Jesus wants all people to be safe from God’s wrath for those that are disobedient to His will.
See and Know that the Lord Jesus Christ Protects
Christians and none Christians should know from today that their safety is not from good planning, observing precautions given by experts, other gods or idols but from Jesus Christ Himself. How would you doubt a God that was His people’s protection in the past and continues to be even today?
The wedding day Thief
Once in a big city was a great wedding for a well-respected man. It is reported that all business activities were put on halt such that shops were closed so that people may attend the wedding. One rich fellow had planned to attend the wedding as well but had to withdraw a huge sum of money before banks close on that day. In the city, banks closed earlier on Saturday, the day of the wedding. This rich man put the money in the inside pocket of his jacket.
The route via the bank delayed the man such that he was late for the wedding and came at the peak of the event. He got so overwhelmed with proceedings such that he forgot about the money he has put in his jacket. Next to him was a young man that noticed the that the jacket was stuffed with some notes in the iside pocket. This young thief took chances and succeeded to steal the money without being noticed. now that the man is overwhelmed. This young man successfully stole the money.
Jesus Expresses the Urge to Avoid Hell – (Matthew 5: 29 – 30)
Jesus Christ mentions hell many times in His words recorded in the Holy Bible. I’m today directed to the Word according to Matthew 5: 29 and 30, where Jesus values safety from hell to the point of forgoing some of your body parts.
Christians are a sweet essence of Christ – Are they? – 2 Corinthians 2: 14 – 16
Christians are a sweet essence of Christ. The best thing one can do for himself or herself is to know exactly who he or she is. In the book of Hosea 4:6, God laments that His people perish because of lack of knowledge. It becomes even more of a trouble when people don’t know that they don’t know.
Pauls in this portion of scripture tell Christians who they really are. Before he, Paul, tells his story, he appreciates God’s assistance for helping Christians overcome at all times. The New International Versions say ‘But thanks to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ…’ It must be noted that Paul had not seen these Christians before, but he writes the letter and tells of God’s assistance to triumph.
Conduct for the Holy ones (Colossians 2: 6)
Conduct is all that other people conclude about his or her life. It is all the person says, does and portrays about his / her life. People listen, watch and conclude as to whether what you are doing makes you happy or unhappy. When they do, they base their conclusion on scripture. You might then hear comments like ‘is this the right conduct for a believer?’, ‘if this one can gain entry to heave, I can also inherit heaven’. Thus conduct is a person’s life.
Verse 6 starts by giving a pre-condition. The word ‘therefore’, means that there is a prior condition. In the preceding verses, Paul had detailed and confirmed to the Colossians that they are Christians and therefore now that they have accepted Christ they must walk in Him. They were taught that it would not be permissible for them to live a life outside of Christ. Walking in Christ means that Jesus Christ rules your life in totality; at home, school, everywhere else and all days of the week. The tendency to be only holy on Sunday is not acceptable.
Do not Leave you own Place at Any Rate (Ecclesiastes 10: 4)
Do not leave the place that God has put you in even when you are faced with perilous times. Your position is your job, marriage, works of service in church, etc. This applies to all people; young and old, popular or not, Pastors or not, rich or poor. Perilous times match individual statuses and positions. It is a pity that perilous times are times that each and every one will have to face a couple of times in their lives.
Perilous times can wound you spiritually as well physically. The versions of the Bible differ in the interpretation of the verse. The New International Version (NIV) says that ‘if a ruler’s anger rises against you’, the Living Translation’ says ‘if your boss is angry with you’, English Standard Version’ says, ‘if the anger of the ruler rises against you’ and SiSwati version says ‘nangabe intfukutselo yembusi ikuvukela’ and Zulu says ‘uma umoya wombusi ukuvukela’. Some other versions say ‘King’s anger’. The common factor in these versions is that the peril comes from someone superior to you. Unfortunately, the devil is also a ruler, according the Mathew 4:8 – 9 and 1 John 5:19 (…the world is under the power of the wicked one). Therefore, the verse could also be referring to the devil as the ruler or king.
